Ingredients

  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 1 cup onions (chopped, I used red for more flavor)
  • 4 roma tomatoes (ripe, chopped)
  • 1 cup fresh cilantro (chopped)
  • 1 pinch garam masala (If you don't have garam masala, take 2 cloves, 2 cardamoms, 1 inch cinnamon, 2 pepper pods and 1 bay leaf. Grind all this till it becomes fine powder)
  • 1 lemon
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • salt (to taste)
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder (Gives the rice a yellow color and additional flavor - optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon serrano peppers (chopped, optional)
