Tigelada is a traditional Portuguese sweet custard featuring a mixture of beaten eggs, milk, and sugar. This recipe for Tigelada is made with cinnamon spiced milk for a deliciously warm cinnamon flavor throughout the custard. Lemon zest is later added to the custard mixture for a contrasting tang. Pour the custard into a pre-warmed clay dish and bake for 25 minutes. This custard is best served warm, sprinkled with a generous amount of cinnamon on top.

Ingredients

  • 0.5 liters milk
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 5 eggs
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 200 grams sugar
  • lemon zest

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees Celsius.

  3. Whisk eggs and sugar, add lemon zest and milk.
  4. Add milk, mix.
  5. Pour in clay dish preheated in the oven a few minutes before.
  6. Bake for about 25 minutes.
  7. Serve warm, sprinkle with cinnamon.

I'm so glad I made this custard. It was rich and aromatic and so easy to make. The lemon zest adds a really lovely flavor with the cinnamon.
