This is my go to cake. I have made it several times. I use espresso instead of water, delicious.

It's ok..following the ingredients and directions..tastes more like sugar than chocolate..recommend using less sugar.

Very disappointed, cake came out dry especially around the outside edge. I figured with the amount of wet ingredients in this recipe the cake would be very moist but that is definitely not the case.

Easy and delicious cake. Great frosting. follow instructions exactly and it will turn out beautifully. Make sure to not only grease pans but also flour them, this is key to having ypur cake release from the pan. light and fluffy cake texture, very sweet and chocolaty frosting.

Easy recipe but cake turned out pretty dry. A couple of the directions weren’t super clear and the frosting was way too thick, I had to put 3-4x the recommended amount for it to be spreadable. Also recommend adding a bit more powdered sugar or less unsweetened cocoa powder

I used two cake pans versus three and it still was moist and decadent. wow is all I can say. We so enjoyed everything about this cake. I will never make a different chocolate cake recipe. YUM. Please keep an eye on your cake though and don't overbake-- it still was extremely moist for it being five mins overbaked. That was my fault!! SOOO good. Frosting was unbelievable. Please use high quality cocoa powder!! It does make a difference.

I tried this dark chocolate cake for the first time, it was a big hit with the kids! Will definitely be keeping this recipe. As is customary in the caribbean, butter is preferred to oil, so I substituted 1 1/2 butter for oil. To give the dark chocolate look, I also added two spoons of browning to the batter to enhance the color. The cake was really most and delicious. I choose a betty croker chocolate frosting with sprinkles.

Good so far!!!
I left the vanilla out because I love the true chocolate flavor and it turned out great!!! One of the better recipes I have tried! THIS IS THE BEST CHOCOLATE cake recipe that I have ever tried!!! We froze the leftovers, had another slice recently and OMG! Delicious.

I loved it! I didn’t have enough flour and had to use pancake mix instead, but overall it turned out great! I made the cake for my sisters birthday and she was very impressed.

The cake and the frosting are amazing. It will be the only chocolate cake recipe I ever make from now on.

Scrumpdillyicious! No kidding...the most amazing chocolate cake I have ever made or eaten. One of my daughters doesn't care for chocolate......and she couldn't stop eating this! I made the mistake of using 8" pans and the cake was SO tall I couldn't put a cake lid on it!! Other then that, I followed the recipe exactly .....using Dark cocoa......just perfect! You wont be sorry if you make this!! Love!!

Truly Amazing - both the cake and frosting. I'm very picky about baked goods and this was the perfect combination of rich, chocolate and sweet. I followed the cake recipe as given but gave a very light brushing of simply syrup to make sure it stayed moist (was baking it a few days ahead). The frosting recipe I also followed as is. It suggests 7-8 cups of icing sugar, I ended up using 7. Overall this is a keeper recipe and has earned a place in my arsenal of awesome recipes
