When you want something sweet and simple for breakfast or as an afternoon pick-me-up, this recipe is the answer. Puff pastry dough is brushed with a single beaten egg mixed with sugar, then rolled up like a scroll, with each side meeting in the middle. The whole surface is then brushed with milk and baked until the dough has risen and turned wonderfully crisp. Note that milk does not promote as much browning as an egg wash.

Ingredients

  • 1 pastry dough (round sheet of puff)
  • 1 egg
  • 130 grams sugar
  • powdered sugar
  • milk

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 190C.
  2. Beat the egg with the sugar in a bowl.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry dough and spread the egg mixture on top.
  4. Roll up each of the two ends towards the center.
  5. Place the dough on a wax paper-lined baking sheet.
  6. Brush some milk over the dough and bake it for approximately 20 minutes or until completely golden.
  7. Cool completely and then sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Delicious and yet so simple! It was flaky yet moist on the inside it was sweet but not too sweet! Absolutely wonderful. I served it with a drizzle of chocolate and caramel Sauce as well as a small scoop of ice cream and powdered sugar!! I recommend this recipe to anyone looking for a quick yet delicious dessert! I made these for breakfast and served with a side of warm maple syrup. They tasted sweet but not too overly sweet.
