The lemon, sugar, cinnamon and Brandy in this recipe are somewhat reminiscent of the combination of liquor, herbs, and honey in a traditional Hot Toddy. The Brandy adds a slightly sweeter flavor and texture that is unique among other bagels. Crispy, chewy and buttery throughout, these breakfast treats will pair marvelously with your morning cup of tea.

Ingredients

  • 3 whole eggs
  • 4 tablespoons softened butter
  • 100 grams sugar
  • 2 tablespoons condensed milk
  • salt
  • cinnamon
  • 1 cup milk
  • lemon zest
  • brandy
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • wheat flour (enough for a soft, but pliable dough)

Directions

  1. Mix eggs, butter, sugar, condensed milk, a pinch of salt, a pinch of cinnamon, milk, lemon zest, and a splash of brandy.
  2. Add the flour and the baking powder last. When the dough no longer sticks to your hands, form a dough ball, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  3. Shape rolls with the dough, joining the tips like a bow.
  4. Fry in oil that is not too hot.
  5. After the bagels are fried on both sides, place on paper towels to drain excess grease, and coat with powdered sugar.
  6. Serve with a mug of tea.

These are really delicious. Frying these bagels makes them crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. The cinnamon and sugar make these a sweet, tasty treat. I highly recommend these for anyone to try.
