Directions
- An introduction to Sticky Cranberry Hand Pies with Joel Gamoran, Elmo, and Cookie Monster (Click on this step or "Make It Now" to view introduction.)
- Combine the flour and salt in a large mixing bowl. Add the vegetable oil and milk and stir until the dough reaches the "shaggy mess" stage. (The dough should form a ball when gently squeezed together.) Add more milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, if the dough is too dry. Divide the dough into three portions, shape into balls, and wrap tightly in plastic wrap. Transfer to the refrigerator and chill for at least 30 minutes.
- Combine the cranberries and grated apple in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the salt and orange zest and cook, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries have burst and cooked down to a thick, sticky consistency, 10-15 minutes. Transfer the mixture to a medium mixing bowl and place in the refrigerator to chill until completely cool.
