This is a wonderful recipe! It was well worth the extra steps, even on a busy workday morning. The flavor was robust and it was a good consistency. I bet the leftovers are going to be even better!

This is the best beef barley soup I've ever made or eaten any where! I didn't have any mushrooms, but will add them the next time. I used 4 cups (1 box) of beef broth, 2 cups of water with one chicken bouillon cube. 3/4 cup of barley. Added fresh parsley, basil and oregano. I used smoked sea salt on beef when searing. Thank you for posting this recipe!

This is excellent... I added cumin, celery powder, onion powder, oregano, cayenne, turmeric and shredded ginger... This has earned a weekly roster spot

I omitted the celery, but added diced potatoes and turnip. And II always add half a can of stewed tomatoes with Italian spices to my soups. I chop the tomatoes up into bite sized pieces and it gives the soup a richer flavour. Oh, and I added a bay leaf or two. This recipe is a keeper, for sure. It was super easy to make. Can't wait to eat the reheats!

Added diced potatoes. It was wonderful! You will need to increase the chicken and beef broth and of course salt and pepper to taste.
