Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 kilogram angus (Aberdeen, braising/stewing beef, chopped into bite-size chunks)
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2 onions (large)
  • 3 cloves garlic (peeled and crushed)
  • 2 tablespoons jelly (red current, or cranberry sauce)
  • 500 milliliters red wine
  • 2 large carrots (peeled and chopped)
  • 2 medium potatoes (peeled and chopped)
  • 1/2 swede (a small, peeled and chopped)
  • 700 milliliters beef stock (water plus 2 stock cubes is fine)
  • 2 tablespoons tomato purée
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 4 bay leaves
  • 2 teaspoons dark brown sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • thyme sprigs (Fresh)
  • bread (Chunks of fresh)
