Description

No need to stand over a griddle all morning when you can make perfect, golden-brown French toast on a single sheet pan.

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 8 slices challa (thick-cut, or Texas toast)
  • 1/4 cup butter (well softened)
  • maple syrup (for serving)

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350° F.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  3. Place the eggs, sugar, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Whisk vigorously until well combined.
  4. Working with one slice at a time, dip the bread in the egg and milk mixture, flipping to soak both sides. Arrange the bread slices on the parchment-lined baking sheet.
  5. Gently spread a scant teaspoon of the softened butter on each slice of bread in an even layer. Flip the slices and spread each with another scant teaspoon of butter.
  6. Transfer the baking sheet to the middle rack of the preheated oven.
  7. Bake the French toast for 10-12 minutes, until golden brown on the bottom. Quickly flip each slice and continue baking for 7-9 minutes longer, until the other side is nicely browned.
  8. Remove the baking sheet from the oven
  9. Serve the French toast immediately, drizzled with maple syrup, if desired.
