It's possible to prepare this sushi house staple easily in your home kitchen. Just soak strips of seaweed in water. Then, dry them and toss the seaweed with toasted sesame seeds and a little rice wine vinegar. Tomatoes are called for as garnish, though you can leave them out if you'd like. When serving this salad with sashimi, you can omit the vinegar. Dress the dish shortly before serving so it retains its texture.

Ingredients

  • 10 grams seaweed
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 3 tomatoes
  • rice vinegar

Directions

  1. Cut the seaweed into strips and leave to soak in cold water for 10 minutes
  2. Toast the sesame seeds in a hot pan. Take care not to burn the seeds.
  3. Cut the tomatoes into pieces and use for garnish.
  4. When the seaweed is ready, drain and dry, then place on a plate and season with vinegar and sesame seeds.
  5. Garnish with tomato.
  6. Adjust seasoning to taste, adding vegetable oil as necessary. Omit the seasoning if served with sashimi.

I was not sure that I would enjoy this recipe but I decided to try it anyways. It really is a delicious salad that is a positive change from the ordinary. It provided many different textures and tastes that just went together perfectly. Will be making this 5 star salad in replacement of my plain old salads.
