  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3 onion (chopped, I usually use 2)
  • 1 bell pepper (large, chopped)
  • 2 stalks celery (chopped)
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley (chopped)
  • 1 1/2 pounds okra (sliced)
  • 1 tablespoon wine vinegar
  • salt (to taste)
  • pepper
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 3 tomatoes (large ripe, peeled and chopped or 1, 16 ounce can tomatoes)
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 3 tablespoons beef bouillon granules
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 pounds seafood (shrimp, crab, oysters, I actually use more than this)
  • cooked white rice
  • gumbo file powder (add to taste at table)
  • Tabasco Sauce (add to taste at table)
