Description

The light crunch of a perfectly crisp and flaky pastry and the heartiness of dinner on the inside, this savory pastry can be served as an accompaniment to your dinner or perhaps as dinner itself. Ready in an hour. You can make your own puff pastry or buy it premade.

Ingredients

1 farinheiras (Portuguese pork sausage with flour, or similar)
1/2 package frozen spinach
1 puff pastry (rectangular fresh)
100 grams mozzarella cheese (grated)
1 eggs (beaten)

Directions

1Fill a saucepan with water, and bring to a boil.
2Add the sausage, and cook for 4 to 5 minutes after the water boils.
3Once cooked, remove the sausage, set aside, but keep the water on the stove. Add the spinach and a pinch of salt.
4Cook for 5 minutes.
5Remove, drain, and set aside.
6Peel the sausage, and break it into pieces with a fork.
7Allow the sausage and the spinach to cool completely.
8Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
9Roll out the puff pastry.
10Spread the sausage stuffing on the pastry lengthwise.
11On top, place the well drained spinach.
12Finally, cover with mozzarella cheese.
13Close the dough, pasting the ends together with a little warm water.
14Brush the top of the pastry with the beaten egg, and bake for about 25 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown.
