Hot hogs get special treatment in this crowd-pleasing recipe, which encases the meat in mustard-slathered puff pastry. Rolled into crescent shapes and brushed with beaten egg, they bake in the oven until glistening and brown. They're meant to be eaten warm, so serve them right out of the oven, perhaps with additional mustard for dipping. Have kids to contend with? This is an ideal recipe for short-stacks, too. But you may want to skip the mustard on their behalf.

Ingredients

  • 1 roll
  • 8 hot dogs
  • mustard
  • 1 egg yolk

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 190 degrees Celsius.
  2. Roll out the pastry and cut into 8 pieces.
  3. Spread one side with mustard; add one hot dog and roll up to form a little croissant shapes.
  4. Place on a lined baking tray, brush with beaten egg.
  5. Cook for 15 minutes or until brown. Serve warm.

Brushing with the egg yolk provides a nice golden brown touch to this old favorite we call "pigs in a blanket" in our house. I like using the kind of hot dog with cheese in them. I was weary of putting the mustard on before baking as I was afraid the roll would be soggy and would not keep well. It actually worked just fine.
