These savory Salty Cupcakes make a great addition to any lunch or dinner or can be served on their own as a tasty afternoon or evening snack. Sauteed ham and onions lend their savory flavors to these creamy, cheesy muffins. Made with cream cheese and parmesan, these savory cupcakes are bursting with warm flavors and have a lovely moist texture. Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • 75 grams ham (sliced into small pieces)
  • 200 grams whole wheat flour
  • 1 package yeast
  • 1 egg
  • 150 grams quark cheese
  • 4 tablespoons milk
  • 2 tablespoons parmesan cheese (ground)
  • salt
  • ground black pepper
  • 4 tablespoons herbs (minced, or parsley and basil)
  • 200 grams quark cheese
  • 100 grams cheese (Philadelphia)
  • 1 tablespoon herbs (minced, or parsley and basil)

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
  2. Heat a skillet with the olive oil at medium flame, then add the onion and ham and stir occasionally until the onion looks transparent.
  3. Mix the whole-wheat flour with the yeast in a large bowl.
  4. Mix the egg, Quark cheese, milk, Parmesan cheese, and salt and pepper to taste in a different bowl. Add the ham, onion, and minced herbs to this bowl, and mix it with the flour to obtain dough.
  5. Pour the dough into cupcake molds and bake for 20 minutes.
  6. Remove the cupcakes from the oven and let them cool off.
  7. Mix the Quark cheese, Philadelphia cheese, minced herbs, and salt and pepper to taste in a small bowl.
  8. Spread the cream over the cupcakes and serve.

These are more of a breakfast muffin than a cupcake. I had something like this at a little coffee place once, and I always wanted the recipe. It was so exciting to finally make some of my own. This is a must try dish.
