So good. I actually subtituted Chick pea and White bean for the black bean and it was amazing. Such lovely flavour. More like a spicy hearty stew. We baked home made sourdough rolls to go with it. Definitely will try it with black bean next time and maybe some spinach? The lentils needed a little longer than 30mins to cook, more like 50mins? which also seemed to help the flavour permeate the dish more.

This is an amazing soup! I followed this recipe almost exactly— I just added spinach and turmeric. I was skeptical about putting the raw lentils with canned beans at the same time but it turned out delicious! I cooked for longer though. Either way, it was so filling and easy for a beginner cook like myself. I made homemade tortilla chips to go along with it, super good!

This was very flavorful, but feel recipe doesnt give good direction for non cooks. i soaked the lentils for 3 hours then cooks them alone with broth for about an hour before added other ingredients. i also added a little more seasoning than stated. it is really good. will definitely make again.

Thick healthy and satisfying. Great for batch cooking for work. I added mushrooms and doubled the spices in the recipe otherwise kept it the same

I had to subtract a few ingredients because I was running low in the fridge, so let me tell you that lentils and black beans are crucial, everything else is optional. Absolutely amazing dish that I made early for dinner, but the family ended up eating for breakfast because it was so delicious. Can't wait to try this again with all the ingredients when a 'lesser' version turned out so well!

Solid but not spectacular meal. I increased the spices to 2 tsp cumin and 2 tsp chili powder. I also had to add more salt and pepper at the end along with a squeeze of lemon juice. I added 2 stalks of celery, kale, and frozen corn.

Excellent! The only substitution I made was I replaced a rib or two of celery for one of the carrots. I also added a few raw mushrooms. Absolutely love the simplicity of this soup. Very flavourful and healthy...great combo😊😊
