Description
Prezel buns are a great substitute for your traditional burger or sandwich buns. They are a little more substantial than the classic and have the bold taste of a prezel. You only need 7 ingredients to pull this recipe together, but a little patience is needed while the dough rests and rises a few times. Try these with a juicy burger and you'll never want to go back to a boring old plain bun again.
Ingredients
US|METRIC
- 1 3/4 teaspoons baker's yeast
- 300 milliliters hot water (from the tap)
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- salt
- 500 grams flour
Directions
- In the bowl of the bread maker, add the hot water and yeast, and let it create a foam.
- Then add the milk, butter, sugar, salt and finally the flour, and select the kneading program (15 minutes).
- Let the dough rest.
- Remove, and on a floured work surface, knead a little longer to get a light, malleable dough that does not stick to the hands.
- Make a long roll as if making a baguette.
- Cut into equal squares, and let stand for 30 more minutes.
- Preheat oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
- Bring 2 liters of water to boil in a large pan.
- When boiling, gently dip the bread squares in water for 30 seconds, then remove them carefully.
- Bake for 10 minutes, or until golden brown.

Pretzel rolls are one of my favorites. This is a great recipe. One tip is to add baking soda to the water bath. This gives the rolls that dark brown, chewy crust that is so lovely about pretzel bread.
