Ingredients

  • 250 grams short pasta
  • 1 1/2 cups pasta sauce (tomato)
  • 100 grams mozzarella cheese (grated)
  • 4 tablespoons parmesan cheese (grated)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 cup milk (warm)
  • salt
  • ground black pepper
  • nutmeg

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
  2. Cook the pasta according to the instructions on the package, al dente.
  3. Meanwhile, prepare the bechamel sauce by melting the butter in a medium skillet. Add the flour and stir constantly until the flour turns golden. Slowly add the warm milk and beat using a whisk over medium-low heat until it thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste and add a pinch of nutmeg.
  4. Mix the pasta and tomato pasta sauce and place in a greased baking pan.
  5. Pour the bechamel and sprinkle the cheese on top.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes or until the cheese melts.
  7. Let it cool and serve.

This creamy bechamel sauce is simple and elegant. Serve this pasta dish with some garlic bread, a crisp mixed green salad, and glass of good white wine. Bits of prosciutto mixed in to the sauce would add a nice unexpected surprise with each bite.
