Parmesan and Walnut Scones with Harissa Sauce

Description

English drop scones are a tea time classic. Putting a savory twist on the English classic, these Parmesan and Walnut Scones are made with a dash of spicy Harissa sauce. Incorporating chopped walnuts and grated parmesan, these savory scones are cheesy and just a little nutty. Brush with a little milk before baking in order to an encourage a golden brown crust on your scones. Bake time is 20 minutes.

Ingredients

250 grams flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 pinch salt
125 grams grated parmesan cheese
60 grams walnuts (chopped)
60 grams butter
1 tablespoon harissa sauce
50 milliliters milk
1 eggs

Directions

1Pre-heat the oven to 180C.
2Line a baking tray with baking paper.
3Place the flour, salt, baking powder, parmesan and walnuts in a large bowl and stir.
4Cut the butter into little pieces and add to the flour mixture.
5Gently rub in the butter with the fingertips until it resembles breadcrumbs.
6Add the harissa, egg and milk. Mix all the ingredients together to form a dough ball. Add a little extra flour if dough appears too sticky.
7Roll out the dough with a rolling pin to a thickness of 2 cm and cut with cookie cutters.
8Place on the baking tray, well spaced out, and brush with a little milk.
9Cook for 20 minutes.
