Smooth and creamy, this Orange Cream Dessert is a light and sweet finish to any meal. Made with fresh orange juice and orange zest, each spoonful of this Orange Cream Dessert is bursting with vibrant citrus flavor making it a dessert you can eat any time of year regardless of the season. Garnish with dark chocolate shavings, chopped nuts and a slice of orange. This orange flavored cream is best served chilled. Store in the refrigerator.

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons unflavored gelatin
  • 4 tablespoons water
  • 250 milliliters orange juice
  • 125 milliliters milk
  • orange zest
  • 2 egg (separated)
  • 75 grams sugar
  • 250 milliliters heavy cream
  • walnuts
  • dark chocolate (chopped)
  • 2 slices orange

Directions

  1. Hydrate the gelatin in the water for 10 minutes.
  2. In a saucepan, heat the orange juice, milk, orange zest, and hydrated gelatin until the gelatin dissolves.
  3. Beat the egg yolks and sugar. Add to the gelatin mixture. Refrigerate until it starts to harden.
  4. Beat the egg whites to soft peaks, whip the cream and carefully fold both into the gelatin.
  5. Pour the mixture into dessert cups or glasses. Garnish with walnuts, chocolate, and orange slices and serve.

When you try to mix a citrus juice with milk, it tends to separate. Instead of using orange juice for this, use orange flavored gelatin instead. It gives the orange flavor to the dessert without possible curdling or separation. If you freeze this in popsicle trays, it tastes just like orange creamsicles that they sell for summer time.
