Pastry that you wish you could eat as the main dish. These delightful gems are filled with aromatic vegetables and spices. They make for a great party appetizer, especially before cocktails.

Ingredients

  • puff pastry
  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • oregano
  • 1 shallot (diced)
  • olive oil (for sauteing)
  • 200 grams porcini mushrooms (chopped)
  • salt
  • thyme

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry and cut out circles with a diameter of 5 centimeters. You can use a small glass to help cut out the circles.
  3. Baste the puff pastry circles with beaten egg, then sprinkle with oregano.
  4. Bake the puff pastry until golden and puffed.
  5. Remove the puff pastry and cut each ball in half with a serrated knife, to fill later.
  6. Separately, saute the diced shallot in a little olive oil.
  7. Once the shallot has softened, add the mushrooms and heat through for a few minutes. Salt to taste and add a pinch of thyme.
  8. Fill the puff pastries with this mushroom mixture to make a burger.

This was an extraordinary recipe to make and served as great appetizers for my guests at our party last week. The mushrooms combined with all the flavors was truly delightful. The pastry was fluffy and flakey. I will use this 5 star recipe for every party I host.
