Muhammara (Roasted Red Pepper Dip)
YUMMLY
Description
You may have seen tubs of muhammara (or mhammara) in grocery stores alongside hummus, but did you know it’s easy to make at home, and even more delicious than the store-bought kind? A revered dip in the Middle East, muhammara is known for its punch of flavor. Roasted peppers and walnuts make a fruity, nutty base for tangy pomegranate molasses, which you can find at well-stocked grocery stores. Enjoy muhammara with warm pita bread, or (though it’s not traditional), with vegetable sticks, as a sandwich spread, and alongside eggs or potatoes. The recipe, which makes 2 cups, is a Yummly original created by Rania Renno.
Ingredients
Directions
- Preheat oven to broil with a rack about 7 inches from heat. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Place bell peppers on pan and brush with 1 Tbsp. olive oil.
- Broil peppers, turning as needed, until skins blister and blacken in places all over, about 20 minutes total. (Remember to keep an eye on them.) Remove peppers from oven but leave broiler on.
- Put roasted peppers in a bowl; cover and set aside about 10 minutes to steam so they’ll be easy to peel.
