I made this and my husband loved it! I took my time and it came out perfect. I added warm spiced apples as a topping and tastier when served cold chilled-refreshing for a summertime treat!

We really enjoyed this it was like a custard tart with a spongy topping. Easy to make will def make again.

This was a challenge for me and I had to throw out the first batch of egg whites due to a small part of yolk that was in it and they wouldn't peak... but after starting again it turned out wonderful, the custard like bottom was creamy and the top was a little crusty, I grated a littke lemon peel on top. I gave it a 3 star because my husband wasn't a big fan due to the texture, so if you are expecting a cake like texture you won't get it here all the way thru.

Bad :( bottom was jiggly and it tasted gross...don’t do this...

Bad:( it was not as tasty as i wanted it. The top was too mushy, and the bottom was gelatin like.

An amazing cake made fast

Easy recipe, easy to follow, but quite eggy (not much flavour) and not really distinctive layers. The moment of pride is still there when you take it out of the oven, though. 😊

Easy. I added fresh fruit to the top
Justina Andriuleviciute 26 Oct 2017
I loved it. My husband not so much. I like the texture but I wish there was somewhat more special taste. It was now only sweet with some vanilla. I will try the chocolate version

It was okay. Not as magic as I had hoped. Not horrible though.

Fantastic, followed recipe instructions. The cooking time could vari depending on your oven. The cake was a big hit with everyone.

Made this a few times now, it's turned out perfect every time and my hubby loves it, and he's very finicky!!
Irina Banica 19 Mar 2017
Easy and great recipe! I pured it in muffin shapes and they turned out great! For my oven it was ready after 25 minutes at 180*C.

Very good recipe. I got the three layers exactly as expected so I was very pleased with the final result. Thank you for sharing this nice recipe :)

Cake with custard sounded so good, but I didn't get the three distinct layers. We did have this for a couple of meals but I ended up throwing out half of it. When it's served warm it's much better than after you've refrigerated it and serve it cold the next day. I'm not too likely to make this again, but if I would, I would serve some kind of fruit sauce with it.

This tastes so-so, definitely not spectacular. The layers are thin. There are a lot better desserts out there to make.
Kelly F. 28 Mar 2016
I thought it was ok. Tasted good but that's all. To me, there's only 2 layers not 3. I don't think I'll make it again.
sheng s. 4 Mar 2016
It turned out very pretty. But we gave it to our dog because we didn't like the texture and flavor. The top layer is very greasy as someone has pointed out. The custard layer was too dense. Won't make it again until I see a better recipe.

Turned out fine-I guess I just expected something better. Hubster wasn't a fan and this type of cake is right up his alley. I won't be making this again
Mary C. 6 Feb 2016
Made this because I loved the fact that it is 3 textures. I found it a little too "greasy" (my stomach has an issue with grease) so next time I will cut the butter in half. I do like the 3 textures. Can't wait to try the chocolate.
Tina R. 2 Feb 2016
Made this with my son, it was not very well loved in my house I had to throw half of it out. Not delicious and texture was a huge put off for the kids.
Gerald Bailey 29 Jan 2016
I made this and there wasn't anything magical about it. It wasn't bad (though my son didn't like it at all), but I thought it was just "ok".
Kelly M. 25 Jan 2016
I absolutely LOVE this recipe! It was easy and fast. I took it out of the oven before the entire top was completely browned and it still jiggled a bit. That was PERFECT. The custard in the middle is creamy and delicious! I will DEFINITELY be making this again! (and again and again")
TAMARA R. 19 Sep 2015
I just tried this cake it was awesome. If you have the time to make it. Its worth it. The only down side is that you will have to make more then one. :o) I omitted the butter by mistake and it was still fabulous.
