This lemon chicken is inspired by the dish of the same name that you can find in Chinese restaurants. Chicken cutlets are lightly coated and fried for a crisp and delicate texture. A simple sauce is made from sugar, lemon juice, and chicken broth then thickened with cornstarch for a sweet and sour flavor. The sauce coats the chicken and imparts a ton of bold flavor, serve this dish with rice and vegetables and drizzle any excess sauce over the rice.

  • 6 chicken fillets (large)
  • soy sauce
  • salt
  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • 25 grams cornstarch
  • 1/2 tablespoon baking powder
  • cooking oil
  • 70 grams sugar
  • 1 lemon
  • 350 milliliters chicken broth
  • 4 slices lemon

  1. Marinate the chicken in a small bowl with enough soy sauce to cover the chicken. Cover with plastic wrap and marinate for 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
  2. Mix the beaten egg with the baking soda and half of the cornstarch. Coat the marinated chicken with this mixture.
  3. Fry the chicken in very hot oil, remove the excess oil with absorbent paper.
  4. Add the sugar, lemon juice, chicken broth, and the remaining cornstarch in a blender. Add salt to taste and puree until smooth.
  5. In a saucepan, cook the sauce along with the lemon slices on low heat.
  6. Place the chicken in the lemon sauce to finish cooking, about 5 minutes.

This must be a joke recipe with a joke review. Its a good thing I'm a great cook, so I salvaged it somewhat. My BF said it was gross anyway. First off, the ingredients say to use baking POWDER and directions say baking SODA. I used baking powder, so as not to have a bitter flavor.. Marinate in soy sauce?? It gave my chicken a very dark appearance when it should look light and lemony. The "batter" was way too thin, just dripped off. The sauce itself was too sweet and I didn't even use ALL the sugar. I had to add more lemon juice to get a lemony flavor. . I don't know how this is called "Chinese Restaurant's recipe". Please tell me the name of the restaurant, so that I never go to it!!!!! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!!

This lemon chicken recipe is true to its title when it says it is a Chinese restaurant recipe. It could not taste more like real Chinese food than it does. The it is tender and juicy with just a touch of lemon that make it very desirable. I will never order this from a restaurant ever again and I cannot wait to make this 5 star recipe again.
