For all the lemon lovers in your life, these classic bars are one of the best treats you can make. The recipe is a Yummly original created by Sara Mellas.


  • nonstick cooking spray
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for crust)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all purpose flour (for crust)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (scant)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups granulated sugar (for filling)
  • 3 lemons (large, for zest)
  • 3/4 cup lemon juice (squeezed from the 3 large lemons)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (for filling)
  • powdered sugar (for dusting)

    Crust too thick. Would scale down flour and butter next time. Good lemon flavor.

    Really good! Nice and tart, would really like to mske it again!
    It's a good one, but crutch a little bit dry, maybe i added not enough butter or something else... but it's still tasty. I'll cook it again some day

    These turned out amazing! Time consuming, but well worth it. My father - hard to please - said they tasted amazing. Just like his grandmother used to make them!

    The recipe measurements were not clear at all. You need a lot more of sugar and flour than what the initial ingredient list said. Personally, I replaced all of the sugar with baking stevia (except for 1/2 cup of sugar in the crust) and maple extract instead of vanilla For those having trouble with the amount of lemon juice. Just juice all of the lemons you used for the zest in it. (3/4 cup) As for the taste? It was pretty good :) it was my first time making lemon bars. I didn’t expect it to look cakey on top but it is and the center is the consistency I thought it would be. Could’ve been much more tart though.

    It was so tasty! I have never baked any pastry as tasty as this. Bear in mind that according to the recipe it will be 3 hours before you can eat it

    absolutely fantastic! I turned it in the oven halfway through baking, it came out perfectly done and even at 34 minutes. If you cook in glassware I recommend turning the oven temp down 10to 15 degrees, and when you pour the filling in pour very slowly so you do not damage the partially baked bottom

    Amazing!!! It was really quite scrumptious, family loved them! Perfect taste of lemon. I didn’t add all the women incest because it seemed too much. So I added just a perfect amount. And I added about a half a cup of fresh lemon juice so about three lemons.

    These were absolutely delicious!! They took a very long time, and were a pain to clean up after, but were 100% worth it. My family enjoys them too, and I was surprised I could get it right based on the fact that I have burnt boxed brownies. I don't pride myself on my skills in the kitchen, but the instructions couldn't have been more clear, so a huge thank you for that. The only problem is that it took so long for me. These definitely won't be a regular in my home, just because of the hassle. But that's just me! I love these so much.

    Mine turned out horrible. Couldn’t even eat them. I think the directions need to be more clear on how much we should put in when it comes to flour and sugar. Will find a different recipe next time.

    The suggesting cooking time before pouring on the lemon mixture was inaccurate. It was too short and The mixture soaked through the uncooked dough and completely messed up the lemon bars.

    I used a 8x8 pan so I used half measure of the ingredients in this recipe. They turned out amazing! Great balance between sweet and tart.
