  • 2 navel oranges (medium)
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 pound cranberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup water

    Directions

    1. Finely grate 1 tsp. orange zest and 1 tsp. lemon zest. Put in a small bowl. Save rest of lemon for other uses.
    2. Cut rind and outer white membrane from oranges, following the curve of the fruit. Cut between inner membranes to remove orange segments. Cut each segment into thirds and transfer to bowl with citrus zest.
    3. Combine cranberries, sugar, and water in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Cook until all cranberries have popped and mixture thickens slightly, 8-10 minutes.
    4. Stir in orange segments and citrus zest. Cool cranberry sauce to room temperature.
    5. Chill sauce at least 3 hours before serving to thicken.
