- 1 lb. bacon (sliced)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 cup celery (chopped, with leaves)
- 1 cup carrots (chopped)
- 2 tomatoes (large, peeled and diced)
- 1 lb. lentils
- 3 qt. water
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 bay leaf (optional)
- basil (optional)
- hot sauce (optional)
- lemon juice (squeeze of, optional)

Directions
- Cook bacon and garlic. Drain the fat thoroughly. Return the mixture to your stock pot.
- Add remaining ingredients.
- Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce to a simmer and cook for 30 minutes or until the lentils are soft but firm. If you want a creamy texture, puree half the soup in a blender and return to the pot.

This is delicious. Made it more for health benefits (fiber). I did add onion, smoke paprika and 1 other Mexican seasoning to increase the flavor, also used turkey bacon instead. I enjoy this dish, very hearty

The lentil soup was wonderful. It was hearty and full of flavor. I will save this recipe.

Great platform to start with......empty the fringe. Added ham and summer sausage and 2 beef bullion cubes and pepper to taste.

I made a few changes, and it was great!
First, I chopped the bacon before cooking, and used 1 TBS olive oil to brown. Then I sautéed the veggies (adding a small chopped onion) in 3 TBS butter for 5 minutes before adding to the pot. I used 1 qt beef bone broth and 1.5 quarts water. I did add 2 bay leaves while cooking.

Good food, added a habanero without seeds. Substituted snort bacon for turkey.
Gotta say that the recipe and instructions were a little on the wrong side of ok.
No mention of onion in list...apart for garlic/celery...but in instructions said ad onion(so I did)
But it’s frustrating for novice kitchen warriors 🤬
Also, no mention of amount of bay leaves or basil, or if it’s fresh or dried....
