Hawaiian-Style Kalbi Beef Short Ribs



  • 5 pounds rib of beef (thin cut tender short, cross cut, about 1/2 inch thick)
  • 2 cups soy sauce
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 garlic cloves (pressed through garlic press)
  • 2 inches fresh ginger (grated)
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • 2 green onions (sliced)
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 red chile (seeds removed and finely chopped)

    1. Place ribs in a large casserole.
    2. Mix all ingredients in a sauce pan over medium heat and stir until the sugar melts.
    3. Pour marinade over ribs, cover with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator 4 hours or overnight, mixing up occasionally to make sure all ribs are covered with the marinade.
