Petite and flaky, these ham and cheese mini croissants make an elegant appetizer, afternoon snack, or a fun lunch item for the kids. Ready in 45 minutes, you can make your own shortcrust pastry or purchase it premade.

Ingredients

  • 1 pastry (plate round short crust)
  • ham slices (to taste)
  • cheese slices (Flemish, to taste)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • sesame seeds (to taste)

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
  2. Coat a nonstick baking tray with baking paper.
  3. Spread out the pastry crust and cover it completely with the cheese and ham slices.
  4. Cut the crust into 16 equal pieces, exactly as if it were a pizza.
  5. Roll each of the slices starting at the wider end and working up to the point, like a croissant.
  6. Place each roll on the baking tray, brush them with the egg yolk and sprinkle them with the sesame seeds.
  7. Bake them until they are golden brown, approximately 25 minutes.

These are perfect for lunch for the kids. They would also make a great late-night snack for a sleepover. These mini croissants would also be a great appetizer for company or a special occasion. It's always great to have a recipe on hand that is so versatile. This recipe is a definite keeper!
