  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 green bell pepper (medium, diced)
  • 1 onion (medium, diced)
  • 1 cup chopped celery (about 3 sticks)
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 14 ounces tomatoes (chopped)
  • 1/2 pound crab legs
  • 1 tablespoon creole seasoning
  • 1/2 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon chicken bouillon powder (or 1 cube)
  • 1 tablespoon thyme (fresh or dried)
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 6 cups chicken stock (sub with water)
  • 1 pound shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley
  • 2 green onions (chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon gumbo file
  • 10 cups cooked rice

Modifyd it a bit, didn't have crab legs in stores here so we put in mussels, and put in a bit of chili for a extra kick, turned out great!
This recipe turned out great! Everybody enjoyed it....will definitely be making this again.

This is good stuff good spice and comes together to be very tasty Didn’t find gumbo file though so used a bit of corn starch

I really like this recipe but I thought it was a little thin. I followed the directions exactly. Should the gumbo filé be added so close to serving. It just didn't seem to thicken it as it should have.

It was a really good recipe but I was lost at when to put the roux in. It didn’t say. I also couldn’t find and didn’t know what a gumbo file was so I used Cajun seasoning. Over all, it was a great recipe and my family loved it. Can’t wait to make it again.

It’s a good recipe. I followed everything except the gumbo file because we couldn’t find anything. My gumbo was very salty and I can’t quite figure out why but still good
I didn't have any canola oil so I used vegetable oil. Other than that I followed the recipe very closely. It turned out kind of oily but the flavor was pretty good.

This is an excellent dish, I seasoned and boiled the chicken to make my own chicken stock/broth and it made it sooooo much better!!! Definitely recommend this dish!!

I was a little intimidated by the process but it turned out great. I followed the directions with no alterations and it was a hit. Definitely keeping this one around.

Amazing. I ended up sautéing the veggies before I added the meat and deglazed them with red wine. For a little bit of a kick, I added one habanero pepper. This is a great blueprint for a delicious gumbo.

This recipe was delicious. I followed the directions exactly with one exception. I was worried about the roux, so I focused on making my roux without the veggies and sautéed the holy trinity separately. Then I added them both to the stock.

Oh my!!!! This is so flavorful and well worth the effort. This is one of those meals that convinces everyone that you are a culinary genius. I did the stew with yellow rice. Over the moon good! Thanks for a wonderful recipe!!!!

It was delicious I made a few modifications, adding lump crab meat with the shrimp. The crab legs are vital because they just absorb all the flavor to the crab meat inside.

It was delicious! I followed the recipe as stated . I only changed one small thing I used chicken wings instead of thighs. The flavor was great and we all loved it!
