Corkscrew pasta, more formally known as fusilli, is a favorite of kids (and many adults), and this dish is sure to please the whole family. The dish includes crumbled fresh sausage that's cooked along with onion as the flavor base, plus frankfurters that are cut into bite-sized pieces. Milk and ricotta cheese are also added and simmered with the rest of the ingredients, resulting in a delectably creamy sauce that coats the noodles in delicious fashion.

Ingredients

  • 350 grams fusilli pasta
  • extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 sausages
  • 1/2 red onion
  • 40 milliliters red wine
  • 50 grams hot dogs
  • 200 grams ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • parmesan cheese
  • dried thyme
  • salt

Directions

  1. Heat the oil in a pan on medium heat. Saute the coarsely chopped onion and the crumbled sausage together for about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the wine and cook until it evaporates, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the hot dog, ricotta cheese, and milk. Cook for approximately 15 minutes until the sauce is creamy.
  4. Season with a pinch of thyme and salt to taste.
  5. Cook the pasta in a pot of boiling salted water for about 8 minutes, Drain the pasta and set aside.
  6. Add the pasta to the sauce and stir.
  7. Serve sprinkled with Parmesan cheese.

This was a true gourmet meal that you could not get in a restaurant or out of a cardboard box. It had the perfect amount of spices and the juice from the sausage gave it a more savory flavor. The pasta stayed tender and didn't turn to mush like some recipes. I loved this dish and would give it 4 stars. Next time I make it I will add some mozzarella cheese.
