I might use a little more sugar next time (sometimes I don't want syrup). I only had regular HEB wheat bread (not the thick cut Texas toast that the recipe suggested). Overall it did turn out crisp after first removing it from the oven, but since the regular slices of bread were much thinner some of the french toast was all crunch and no soft bread-like texture on the inside. I'll definitely be trying the Texas toast next time! Pretty good recipe in my opinion.
