Simple, yet flavorful this recipe for Figs with Zabaglione makes an elegant wintertime dessert. Zabaglione is an Italian Custard typically made from a combination of whipped egg yolks, sugar, and a sweet wine. This recipe for Figs with Zabaglione is vegan and gluten free, instead electing to whip eggs with honey over a double boiler until creamy. Baked with a drizzle of honey, the figs have a caramelized exterior that pairs wonderfully with the creamy Zabaglione sauce.

Ingredients

  • 4 figs
  • 8 tablespoons honey
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • rosemary
  • 2 eggs

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 250 Celsius.
  2. Cut the figs into halves and place, cut side up, onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. Drizzle with honey and sprinkle with rosemary.
  4. Bake for 5 minutes, until they begin to caramelize. Remove from the oven and place onto a serving dish.
  5. Whisk the eggs together with the honey over a double boiler until creamy.
  6. Spoon the custard over the figs and serve.

Figs and Italian custard taste amazing together. This is a beautiful dish that is elegant and pretty. I served it as a dessert after a lasagna dinner I made, and everyone loved it.
