Ingredients

  • 10 1/2 ounces lean ground beef
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 1 large egg (lightly beaten)
  • 2 tablespoons tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic (crushed)
  • 4 1/2 ounces button mushrooms (finely chopped)
  • 2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
  • 2 sheets puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a bowl, combine ground beef, 1/2 onion, egg and tomato sauce. Season to taste. Shape into 1 1/2 x 3 inch patties.
  2. Heat oil in a medium frying pan on high. Cook patties for 4-5 mins each side, until well browned. Drain on paper towel.
  3. Melt butter in same pan on medium. Sauté remaining onion and garlic for 2-3 mins, until tender. Add mushrooms and sauté for 5-6 mins, stirring until tender. Mix in Worcestershire sauce. Allow to cool.
  4. Cut 1 1/2 x 4 inch rounds from 1 pastry sheet. Place on baking sheet. Top each with a meat patty and mushroom mixture. Cut the other sheet into quarters; brush edges with milk. Cover patty, pressing around base to seal.
  5. Score tops and brush with milk. Bake for 25-30 mins, until pastry is puffed and golden.
