  • 3/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup superfine sugar (or regular granulated sugar, see Sweetapolita's Notes)
  • 1/2 cup Dutch process cocoa powder (extra dark OR dark)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk (room temperature)
  • 1/3 cup coffee (OR boiling water)
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 egg (room temperature)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1/3 cup dark cocoa powder (premium, I used Guittard Noir)
  • 1/4 cup hot water
  • 1/4 cup sour cream (OR plain Greek Yogurt)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (I used Nielsen-Massey)
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 5 ounces chips (or premium dark, but not extra dark chocolate, chopped, melted, I used Callebaut Callets)
  • sprinkles (Your favourite, I used the Jersey Shore Sprinkle Medley from my shop)
  • 1 pastry (large, bag, disposable or reusable)
