Not too bad attempt, but skip the chocolate and go with heavy cream instead of buttermilk! I'm proud 4th generation 1/2 Danish American originally from NE.. Mom used to treat great Danish-American (Madsens, Andersens, Pedersens) father to these and we used to challenge him to how many pans of 7 balls we could eat. Cast iron pan is the best, although I also have a tephlon Nortack that you have to very closely watch. Jams/jellies are the best--HOLD the glog!! Next time I make these, I'll probably add cardium. Also make sure you use plenty of grease in the wells so batter easily slides to form the hollow ball.
