Be ready for Valentine's Day with this recipe for Chocolate Cereal and Marshmallow Hearts. A sweet treat for you sweetheart, you can make these Valentine's Day rice krispie treats with cocoa krispies or with the traditional rice krispie cereal depending on what flavor you like best. Colored with red food dye, melted butter and marshmallow bring this mixture together. Use a heart shape cookie cutter to shape the rice krispies after they have cooled down.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 40 large marshmallows
  • red food coloring
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies (or Cocoa Krispies cereal)

Directions

  1. Grease a rectangular baking pan with butter. Set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter and marshmallows over low heat while constantly stirring with a wooden spatula. Add the red food coloring to taste.
  3. Add the cereal and mix.
  4. Place on the baking pan and, using your wet hands, press down to even out the surface.
  5. Let it cool and cut into heart shapes using a cookie cutter.
  6. Serve.

These are really neat treats to make with the kids. We have made so many different shapes out of cereal treats through the years. These heart shaped ones are really pretty and perfect for Valentine's day. They are so easy to make. Everyone should try them.There is no chocolate in the recipe, so the treats might need a name change or added ingredients.
