This simple chocolate cake is made with just 10 ingredients and comes together in just over an hour for a rich and delicious dessert. In this recipe a simple icing is made with margarine, condensed milk, and melted chocolate for a rich and creamy topping. You can add some sprinkles to make the cake festive if you are celebrating a birthday or top each sliced with a dallop of whipped cream and some fresh berries for a more grownup feel.


  • 250 grams unsweetened chocolate
  • 10 egg yolks
  • 10 egg whites (beaten)
  • 300 grams sugar
  • 175 grams margarine (melted)
  • 250 grams flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 250 grams unsweetened chocolate
  • 175 grams margarine
  • 1 can condensed milk


  1. Preheat the oven to 180 Celsius degrees.
  2. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler.
  3. Beat the egg yolks with the sugar, then the melted margarine and melted chocolate, flour and baking powder; and finally, the beaten egg whites.
  4. Pour into a greased and floured, high-sided cake pan.
  5. Bake for about 30 minutes.
  6. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler.
  7. Melt the margarine and let cool, then stir it a little.
  8. Mix the margarine and the chocolate, then add the condensed milk.
  9. Mix until you get a homogeneous consistency.
  10. When the cake is cold, cut it in half, and spread icing on the bottom half. Replace the top of the cake, and ice the entire surface.

I would pick this 4 star chocolate cake over all my other ones. It is surprisingly moist and is a semi-dense cake. The chocolate is well recognized in each delightful piece.
