Description
Quick and simple, there is no need to call out for Chinese takeout with this recipe for Chinese-style Spicy Shrimp. Featuring jumbo shrimp and green peppers, the white wine soy and rice vinegar sauce completes this dish. Sweet and spicy, these Chinese-style shrimps are ready in just half an hour. Adjust the amount of cayenne peppers used to suit your personal preference for spiciness, this recipe used two peppers. Serve with plenty of fluffy white rice.
Ingredients
US|METRIC
- 750 grams jumbo shrimp
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 green bell pepper
- 1 shallot
- 2 cayenne peppers
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons white wine
- 3 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
Directions
- Add the oil to a skillet on medium heat. Add the shrimp and saute for a couple of minutes. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, saute the bell pepper, shallot, and cayenne peppers for about 7 minutes.
- Add the soy sauce, wine, vinegar, sugar, and cornstarch to the vegetables, mixing well so the cornstarch cooks through. Add less cornstarch for a thinner sauce.
- Add the shrimp and let simmer in the sauce for 3 minutes.

This is a restaurant quality shrimp dish. It turned out amazingly well and everyone loved it. The only thing I did differently from the recipe shown was I only added one cayenne pepper as that is all I had available. It still turned out spicy and delicious.
