Chickpea Burgers


The next time you crave a juicy burger, try this vegetarian Chickpea Burger instead of running out to the nearest fast food joint. Fresh garlic, lime, cumin and paprika season these tender and juicy vegetarian and vegan friendly chickpea burgers. Instructions for a homemade hummus sauce to use instead of ketchup and mustard are included. Serve on buns with fresh lettuce and tomato. You can freeze these chickpea burgers for a quick meal in the future.


  • 125 grams chickpeas
  • water
  • 1 garlic cloves (peeled)
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • salt
  • ground black pepper
  • 200 grams chickpeas
  • 1/2 red onion (peeled)
  • 1/2 garlic cloves (peeled)
  • fresh parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander seeds
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • hamburger buns
  • lettuce
  • tomatoes
  • cheese


  1. Soak the chickpeas in water overnight.
  2. The following day, cook in boiling salted water until soft.
  3. Chop the garlic and puree with the chickpeas, lime juice, olive oil, and 1 teaspoon water in a food processor until smooth.
  4. Season with cumin, paprika, and a pinch of salt and black pepper.
  5. Soak the chickpeas in water overnight.
  6. The following day, puree the chickpeas with the onion, garlic, parsley, cumin, coriander seeds, flour, salt, and 1 teaspoon of the water in a food processor until smooth.
  7. Make the hamburger patties by hand.
  8. Heat the olive oil in a saucepan and fry the hamburgers until brown on both sides.
  9. Serve on hamburger buns and with the sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese.
