  • 2 tablespoons Crisco Pure Vegetable Oil
  • 1 onion (large, chopped)
  • 3 carrots (thinly sliced)
  • 4 stalks celery (coarsely chopped)
  • 3 cups cooked chicken (cubed)
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 1 1/2 cups Martha White® Self-Rising Flour
  • 1/4 cup Crisco All-Vegetable Shortening
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley (chopped)
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth

    Directions

    1. HEAT oil in Dutch oven or large saucepan over medium-high heat until hot. Add onion, carrots and celery; cook and stir until tender. Add chicken, pepper and 6 cups broth. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low; simmer 15 minutes.
    2. PLACE flour in medium bowl. With pastry blender or fork, cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in parsley. Add 1/2 cup broth; stir just until dry ingredients are moistened.
    3. DROP dough by tablespoonfuls onto simmering stew. Cover; cook over medium-low heat for 10 to 15 minutes or until dumplings are firm.
