These savory Cheese and Pink Peppercorn Hearts make a festive holiday appetizer or can be made into snacks around Valentine's day. Flavored with cheddar cheese, sweet paprika, thyme, and dijon mustard, these savory crackers are full of warmth. Baste the crackers with an egg wash and sprinkle with pink peppercorns before baking for an elegant finish. Serve alongside a cheese and meat plate or with a glass of wine. Bake time is 12 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 125 grams flour
  • 125 grams butter (very cold and cubed)
  • 125 grams cheddar cheese (cubed)
  • 1 pinch sweet paprika
  • 2 teaspoons dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dijon mustard
  • 2 eggs (beaten and divided)
  • pink peppercorns (for garnish)

Directions

  1. In a food processor, pulse together the flour and butter until it forms a sandy texture.
  2. Add in the cheese, paprika, thyme, and mustard. Process together until a paste is formed.
  3. While the machine is running, add in 1 beaten egg, and a ball should form.
  4. Preheat the oven to 170 degrees Celsius.
  5. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Roll out the dough to 1 centimeter thickness and cut out many small heart shapes and add them to the baking sheet.
  7. Baste the tops of the dough with beaten egg and garnish with peppercorns.
  8. Bake 12 minutes or until the bottoms are golden.
