Ingredients

  • 2 sweet onions (mediums)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt

Directions

  1. Thinly slice onions and set aside. In a large saute pan over medium-high heat add olive oil and butter. Once pan is hot and the butter has melted, add onions and salt and stir. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring constantly. reduce heat to medium/medium low and continue to cook for another 20 minutes, stirring every so often.
  2. Onions will be caramelized one they take on a light brown color and have a sweet flavor. If you find that the pan is getting too hot or dry, you can always reduce heat or add more olive oil or butter. Remove onions from pan and allow to cool.
