Holiday parties call for lots of rich-tasting, indulgent dips and spreads to enjoy along with spirited cocktails, and this recipe fills the bill perfectly. What could be better than a whole round of camembert that's been breaded and deep fried? When it's been topped with caramelized onions. When you (or your lucky guest) cuts into the cheese, the interior will be wonderfully melted--and just right for spreading on crackers or crostini.

Ingredients

  • 1 onions (julienned)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 camembert (wheel)
  • 1 eggs (beaten)
  • bread crumbs
  • vegetable oil (for frying)

Directions

  1. 1Saute the julienned onion.
  2. 2Once softened, add the sugar and slowly simmer 15 minutes.
  3. 3Separately, coat the cheese rind in beaten egg and then bread crumbs. Fry in plenty of hot oil.
  4. 4Top the whole cheese wheel with the hot caramelized onions.
