Ingredients

  • 3 pork steaks (or 800g pork shoulder, diced)
  • 3 tablespoons rice wine (or mirrin)
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 centimeters ginger root (piece of, grated)
  • 2 garlic cloves (grated)
  • red chili peppers (deseeded and chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • onions (a small, chopped fine)
  • star anise
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tomato purée (a tbsp)
  • 250 milliliters chicken stock
  • 2 sticks rhubarb (trimmed and cut into 2cm chunks.)
