- 5 cloves garlic cloves (minced)
- 1/4 tsp. grated ginger

- 1 tsp. cumin (jeera powder)
- 1 tsp. coriander (dhania powder)
- 1/2 tsp. red chili powder
- 2 green chilies (cut lengthwise)
- 1 cup chawli (black-eyed peas, soaked overnight, this will double up to almost 2 cups)
- 1 Tbsp. jaggery (powdered)
- 1/4 tsp. tamarind paste (or 1/2 tablespoon lime juice)
- 1/4 Tbsp. methi leaves (dried, kasoori methi for garnishing, optional)
- cilantro (/ Coriander leaves, dhania for garnishing, optional)
