Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup rice
  • 1/4 onion
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 potato (small, diced)
  • 1 carrot (small, diced)
  • 1/4 cup peas
  • 2 cups water
  • salt
  • 4 tablespoons cream

Directions

  1. In a saucepan, heat the oil and add the rice. Stir using a wooden spoon.
  2. Add the onion and garlic while still stirring.
  3. Once the rice becomes transparent, add the potato, carrot, peas, water, and salt to taste.
  4. Stir and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and cover. Do not stir the rice in this step.
  5. Continue to cook until the water has evaporated. Remove the garlic and onion.
  6. Serve.

This is a simple rice dish that doesn't have a heavy taste, so it would compliment other light tasting dishes with fish or chicken. Dice the vegetables very small. Also, make sure they are all cut in to uniform sizes, so they cook evenly.
