A twist on a traditional Mexican treat. Taste the velvety smoothness of cheese, mixed with the sweet flavor of caramelized sugar. The decorations are a breeze to make, and they are edible as well. Perfect for taco night.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puffed pastry
  • 1 kilogram bananas
  • 100 grams sugar
  • 50 grams brown sugar
  • 50 grams butter
  • cinnamon
  • 1/2 lemon

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 170 Celsius.
  2. Cut the banana into slices approximately 2 centimeters thick. Place into a bowl along with the lemon juice and a little water.
  3. Heat the sugar and brown sugar together in a saucepan to form a caramel sauce and pour into the pie pan.
  4. Drain the bananas and place them over the caramel sauce. Dot with butter and sprinkle with cinnamon.
  5. Bake for 15 minutes. Remove from oven, place the puffed pastry on top of the bananas, tucking in tightly, and bake for 20 minutes, until golden brown.
  6. Turn the tart out onto a platter and let cool slightly before serving.

One of the sweetest tarts that I've ever had. The caramel sauce puts it at the top of the charts, but that's what makes it special. I also really like the flavor of the banana. The pastry brings a nice texture to compliment the bananas. These make a nice treat or even a (not so healthy) breakfast.
