With a recipe that doesn't take too long to prepare, these yeasted breadsticks made with appl-purpose flour, brewer's yeast and barley are kneaded for about 10 minutes and only need an hour to rise. Before they're placed in the oven, the breadsticks are sprinkled with poppy seeds, the addition of which add visual interest and a textural "pop." Serve them warm with butter that's showered with flaky sea salt.

Ingredients

  • 100 grams butter (at room temperature)
  • 100 grams sugar
  • salt
  • 3 large eggs (separated)
  • 160 milliliters milk (fresh)
  • 250 grams flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • grated lemon peel

Directions

  1. Sift the flour with the baking powder and a pinch of salt.
  2. Beat the butter, sugar, and grated lemon peel with an electric mixer until light and foamy.
  3. Add the egg yolks, one at a time, adding each one after the first has been completely incorporated.
  4. Add the flour, alternating with the milk.
  5. Add the stiffly beaten egg whites, folding them into the batter carefully.
  6. Preheat the oven to 170 degrees Celsius.
  7. Butter and flour a 22 to 24 centimeter cake pan.
  8. Place the cake in the oven when it has reached a temperature of 50 to 60 C. Bake for approximately 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Remove the cake from the oven and let cool.

This cake recipe was beyond compare. It was very toothsome and it was one of the moistest cakes that I have ever had the pleasure of eating. It was slightly thickset and very filling; I was very happy to know that it did not require a ton of work to make it. I will be making this 5 star Delicious cake recipe once again.
