A variation of the classic American favorite. Get your apples ready, because this cake requires six of them. With the unique flavor of a splash of port wine, this cake is a must make during autumn.

Ingredients

  • 6 apples (large)
  • 1 whole egg
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 150 grams sugar
  • 125 grams margarine
  • 10 grams port wine
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 170 grams flour
  • salt
  • powdered sugar (to taste)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
  2. Peel and core the apples. Cut them into quarters, and slice each section, without separating completely. Set aside.
  3. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius..
  4. Beat the egg, egg yolks, and sugar for about 2 minutes.
  5. Add the margarine and Port wine, and mix on a higher speed for a few seconds.
  6. Add the flour, baking powder, and salt and mix for a few seconds. The dough gets quite thick.
  7. Pour into a round cake pan greased with butter and sprinkled with flour.
  8. Uniformly distribute the apples on top of the dough. Slightly press down the apples, without sinking them into the dough.
  9. Bake for about 30 minutes. Check the cooking with a toothpick, remove, unmold, and let cool.
  10. Once cooled, sprinkle abundantly with powdered sugar.

Delicious apple pie recipe. The apples bake really well and create a great filling inside the pie. The touch of wine in the dough was different, but if you aren't a wine fan, it doesn't make too much of a difference in taste. Be sure to use water in it's place though or the dough will become unworkable. Check the pie frequently, as it turns golden brown quickly. A half an hour was perfect for me. You don't want to overcook or burn the crust.
