Ingredients

  • 500 grams apples (peeled and cut in small pieces)
  • 200 grams sugar
  • 50 milliliters water
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • 3 cardamom pods (slightly open)

Directions

  1. Put all ingredients in a small saucepan.
  2. Cook over low heat until apples are soft and translucent, stirring. Use a wooden spoon to mash remaining large pieces of apple.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Allow to cool slightly.
  5. Pour the jam into sterilized jars, filling them to the top.
  6. Cover, and turn the jars upside down for a few minutes to create a natural vacuum.

This sweet and spicy jam is a good spread for toast and biscuits. I've also used it to fill cookies and small pies. My son warms it for use as an ice cream topping. Turning the jar upside down does ensure a good seal.
